Ongoing cost is real but it is not a number we can quote you, because it is set by your system's design and your county's requirements — which meet or exceed the state minimum.
What you are paying for, on an aerobic system:
- Required inspections by a licensed maintenance provider, on the schedule your county sets. - Chlorine or other disinfection, ongoing. - Wearing parts — air pumps, effluent pumps, spray heads, control components — replaced as they fail rather than on a schedule. - Any county registration or reporting fee.
A conventional system costs much less to own: periodic pumping and keeping traffic and structures off the drainfield.
The honest framing is that an aerobic system is a piece of equipment with a maintenance obligation attached, and it should be budgeted that way from the start.
