This is diagnostic work rather than parts swapping, and it is where experience actually matters.
A control panel failure, a stuck float and a failed timer can all present the same way from outside: the system alarms, or it stops doing something it should. Telling them apart means getting in there with a voltmeter, an ohmmeter and an ammeter, taking real measurements, and understanding what the panel is supposed to be doing at each stage.
The mistake to avoid is replacing the obvious component and calling it fixed. If a float failed because the panel was feeding it wrong, or a pump burned out because a timer stuck, you will be back. Find the root cause, then fix it.
